How does Smart Charging work?
Tell us when your car needs to be ready and add your electricity tariff details so that we charge when it’s cheapest for you. Smart Charging uses this information to schedule charging at lower-cost times, while making sure your car is ready when you need it.
During periods of high demand on the electricity grid, Smart Charging may briefly pause charging to help reduce demand. Charging automatically resumes when demand has eased. We’ll always aim to make sure you get the charge you need while helping the grid.

How much can I earn?
You can check your current balance at any time in the Wallet in your myNexBlue app.
Who is eligible for Smart Charge Rewards?
Only one smart charging service can control your charger at a time.
If your charging is already managed by an intelligent tariff or another third-party smart charging service, you won’t be able to use Smart Charge Rewards at the same time.
This includes Octopus Intelligent Go, Octopus Flux and OVO Charge Anytime.

What is Smart Charging?
Smart Charging is the way you schedule charging in the myNexBlue app. Tell us when you need your vehicle and how much charge you require, then plug in as usual. Smart Charging will schedule your charging around your needs, typically during periods of lower electricity demand.
What are Smart Charge Rewards?
Smart Charge Rewards are payments you can earn when using Smart Charging. By allowing us to make small adjustments to your charging schedule, your charger can help balance the electricity grid when demand is high.
Will my vehicle still be ready when I need it?
Smart Charging works around the ready time and charging requirements you set in the app. You remain in control and can update your charging preferences or override the schedule if you need to charge immediately.
How much can I earn?
You can earn £5 per reward period, plus a £10 welcome reward when you join.
Is there a minimum amount of energy I need to use?
No minimum number of kWh is required. You only need to complete at least two eligible charging sessions during each reward period.
Does it work with all EVs in my household?
Yes, provided your charging is managed through your NexBlue charger and it is not already controlled by Octopus Intelligent Go or another smart or intelligent tariff or smart charging service.
Does it cost anything to register?
No. Smart Charging and Smart Charge Rewards are completely free.
How do I register?
Open the Smart Charging section of the myNexBlue app, enter your tariff details and charging preferences, then select ‘Finish’.
Can I only charge my vehicle at certain times?
No. Smart Charging will usually schedule charging overnight or during lower-demand periods of the day, while working around the ready time and charging requirements you have selected. You can override the schedule if you need to charge immediately.
When will I receive my rewards?
Your £5 reward will normally be added on or shortly after the end of each reward period, provided you complete
at least two eligible charging sessions during that period.
Your reward period is based on the date you joined Smart Charge Rewards, rather than the calendar month.
You can withdraw your rewards whenever your balance reaches £15.
How long will I receive rewards?
You can continue earning rewards for as long as the Smart Charge Rewards programme continues to operate and you meet its eligibility requirements.
Which energy tariffs are not compatible?
Smart Charge Rewards are not compatible with Octopus Intelligent Go, Octopus Flux, OVO Charge Anytime, or other intelligent tariffs or services that also control when your vehicle charges.
Why are some intelligent tariffs not compatible?
Smart Charging needs to manage your charging schedule to support the grid. If another tariff or service is also trying to control your charging, the two schedules may conflict.
What information will I need to provide?

When you need your vehicle to be ready and how much charge you require.
MPAN (if required)
If we cannot detect your MPAN automatically, you can find it on your electricity bill.
Yes. Participation is voluntary, and you can opt out through the myNexBlue app. Opting out will mean you are no longer eligible to earn Smart Charge Rewards.
